A new podcast series titled Sustainable Development Talks has been launched by the Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Middle East Technical University (METU CLIMATE). The series aims to highlight projects carried out by academics at METU in line with the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to inspire the wider community. With new episodes released every week, the series explores different aspects of the SDGs, showcases the work of academics at METU and presents thought-provoking content that contributes to sustainable development.
Each episode focuses on a specific SDG and presents diverse insights from the perspective of academics at METU — from renewable energy to sustainable urban planning, climate-resilient building design to economic growth, water management to gender equality, food security to quality education, and technology to the potential impacts of climate change. While sharing their research and projects, the featured academics also discuss how their work intersects with the SDGs and reflect on the roles individuals, institutions, and policymakers can play in advancing these goals. The podcast emphasizes that the SDGs are not only a theoretical framework but also a call for concrete and practical action.
First episode now available
The first episode, focusing on SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, features Prof. Dr. İpek Gürsel Dino from the Faculty of Architecture at METU. Released on Thursday, January 30, the episode explores a variety of topics including the effects of climate change on urban design, the importance of energy-efficient buildings, the future of sustainable cities, and the roles that individuals and institutions can play in achieving these goals. The episode offers valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities involved in designing the cities of tomorrow.
