The “Teaching in Higher Education Effectively via Eye-tracking” project, by Prof. Dr. Kürşat Çağıltay from Computer Education and Instructional Technology Department, under the coordinatorship of our university, is entitled to be as one of the 15 granted projects within the scope of 2019 ERASMUS+ Main Action 2 Strategic Partnerships in Higher Education (KA203). University of Salerno from Italy, Vilnius University of Lithuania, Atatürk University Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching (ÖGEM), Belgium UNICA and Dama Sistem Ltd. from METU Technopolis are jointly taking part in the project which has a budget of 282,618 Euros, and will last 33 months.
Within the scope of the “Development of Teaching Techniques in Higher Education Using Eye Movements Monitoring Technique”project; eye movements of academics in Turkey and Europe will be recorded with special glasses while they teach lessons in the class, then will be analyzed, and academics will be given information by using the data collected from their own eyes for better management of classes, for giving more effective lectures with the support of technology. In this way; inexperienced academics will be able to observe classroom management through the eyes of experienced faculty, experienced academics will improve themselves, faults in giving lectures will be spotted, efficient lecturing of academics will be provided, smart board and similar technological equipment in their classes will be easier to use actively in their classes.
Pedagogical skills in subjects such as interactive lectures and classroom management of faculty experienced in courses within the universities of Turkey and Europe will be modeled by using in-class course recordings made with eye-tracking glasses which will be worn by faculty, within the scope of the project, which aims to contribute to the better education of our youth, which is the future of our country, by making teaching skills of our academics effective. At the end of the project; computer aided learning content will be designed and developed to facilitate the rapid-transfer of knowledge and skills that academicians should acquire. The model developed by project outcomes will then be expanded in Turkey and other EU countries by the role of the Higher Education Board and similar institutions in the participating countries.
