QS University Rankings “by Subject” Announced

UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Company announced the 2019 results of university rankings by subject on February 27, 2019.

UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Company announced the 2019 results of university rankings by subject on February 27, 2019.

QS assessed 4,430 leading universities in the world for subject areas and ranked 1117 universities in these areas by measuring performances in 48 disciplines. The rankings are calculated by considering “Academic Recognition”, “University Recognition”, “Citation Rates” and “H-index” which measures the effect of academic studies.

According to the QS World University Ranking (2019), METU represented our country by being among the‘outstanding’universities of the world in 18 subject areas (3 broad subjects – 15 specific subjects), thus representing Turkey in the highest number of subject areas. METU was ranked first in 10 out of 15 subject areas among Turkish universities. METU was ranked

  • 243th in Engineering & Technology (first in Turkey)
  • 312th in Natural Sciences (first in Turkey)
  • 336th in Social Sciences (first in Turkey)

The rankings can be accessed at www.topuniversities.com/subject-rankings/2019 . In addition, METU was listed;

  • in the first 150 universities in 3 subject areas (Education, Architecture, Civil & Structural Engineering),
  • in the first 200 universities in 3 subject areas (Statistics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical Engineering),
  • in the first 250 universities in 2 subject areas (Chemical Engineering, Agriculture)
  • in the first 300 universities in 3 subject areas (Materials Engineering, Physics and Astronomy, Computer Engineering),
  • in the first 350 universities in 2 subject areas (Marine Sciences, Business Management)
  • in the first 400 universities in 1 subject area (Mathematics),
  • in the first 450 universities in 1 subject area (Chemistry).
