Organized annually by the Middle East Technical University since 1991, the Alumni Day was celebrated on Saturday, June 29, 2019 with various activities on METU Campus.
The event started with METU Presidential Choir and Classical Turkish Music Club Alumni Concert was followed by the show of the alumni of the Turkish Folklore Club.Colourful scenes were seen while the alumni were dancing in the music played by the band. After the shows, President Prof. Dr. Mustafa Verşan Kök addressed the alumni with his opening speech. Stating that we continue to lead education, research, social service and the business world with over 130 thousand METU alumni living in 140 different countries of the world, President Prof. Dr. Kök expressed his gratitude to our alumni for their continued financial support to METU through the scholarships they provide as well as moral support through social responsibility projects they carry out.
In his speech where he briefed on AdımODTÜ project that enables METU alumni and enthusiasts to contribute to a wide range of activities including scientific studies carried out in our University, creation of new living spaces, various social responsibility projects and clubs’ and societies’ activities; ODTÜM Network created to help alumni stay connected with one another and with their University; and “Alumni Newsletter”, a communication tool that reaches out almost 80 thousand alumni to let them know about the University, Prof. Kök ended his words by expressing his gratitude to all METU stakeholders who created METU spirit.
As part of the Alumni Day activities; those who donated to the campaign “This meal is on you” organized by AdımODTÜ were given the photographs taken with Kemal Kurdaş and in front of the Tree of Science using the green box technique as gifts.
On the giant screen set up in the CCC Foyer area, a video prepared by METU GİSAM and showing the activities held in the last year was demonstrated.
The alumni had fun with their families in the happy hour where lemonade, cookie and METU cookies are offered, organized in front of ODTÜDEN, and accompanied by a concert by the “Nefesli Show Band” orchestra.
In addition; the special issue of the ODTÜLÜ Magazine was distributed in CCC, ODTÜDEN, Cafeteria and dorms.
After the visit to Atatürk’s Mausoleum by the former and current alumni and METU members, which is one of the events with the greatest participation in the Alumni Day, a special lunch was organized for our alumni in Cafeteria, reminding of beautiful memories of campus life. After the Alumni Day special lunch; medal ceremony and events were organized for the alumni celebrating their 10th,20th, 30th, 40th, 45th, 50th and 55th graduation anniversary.
