The UK-based university ranking organization Times Higher Education (THE) announced its 2025 World University Rankings by Subject, and METU was evaluated in 9 out of the 11 subjects that were included in the rankings. According to the results, METU achieved first place among Turkish universities in 8 out of these 9 subjects. Globally, METU ranked 89th in Education Studies, secured a position within the top 200 in Social Sciences, and placed within the top 300 in five fields: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, and Psychology. Additionally, METU earned a spot within the top 400 in Life Sciences and within the top 500 in Physical Sciences.
Leading universities worldwide were evaluated across 33 disciplines under 11 subjects in THE 2025 World University Rankings by Subject, and METU was ranked in 9 out of the 11 subjects in which it operates. Based on these results, METU has improved its ranking in thee subjects.
METU ranked as the top university in Turkey in Education Studies, Business and Economics, Life Sciences, Psychology, and Social Sciences, while sharing the top position in Arts and Humanities with Koç University, in Computer Science with ITU, and in Physical Sciences with Koç University and Sabancı University.
In THE World University Rankings by Subject, the same methodology used for the World University Rankings in which METU was placed in the 351-400 band is applied, utilizing the following categories and indicators. However, the weighting of these indicators varies by subject in order to ensure accurate evaluation across different fields.
- Teaching: Teaching reputation, student to staff ratio, ratio of doctoral graduates to bachelor’s degree graduates, and institutional income per academic staff member.
- Research Environment: Research reputation, research income per academic staff member, and number of publications per researcher.
- Research Quality: Citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and research influence.
- Industry: Industry income per academic staff member, number of patents
- International Outlook: Ratio of international students and academic staff members, and number of internationally published co-authored publications.
