Graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1966 and being a professor at the Imperial College, Erol Gelenbe was awarded Commandeur de l’Ordre National du Mérite” (Commander of the National Order of Merit of France) by the President of France on May 29, 2019. Prof. Gelenbe is one of only two academics who were recognised with this honour in 2019.
Working in the fields of computer science, electronic engineering and applied mathematics, Prof. Gelenbe is a pioneer in modeling and performance evaluation of information and communication technologies throughout Europe, as well as being the inventor of mathematical models such as G-networks and random neural networks.
His work includes Quality of Service (QoS), Energy Consumption, and Cybersecurity. He was elected Fellow of the National Academy of Technologies of France, the Royal Academy of Science, the Science Academy of Turkey and has received many awards. Being awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 2014, Prof. Gelenbe was also awarded “Commandeur de l’Ordre National du Mérite” for his services in higher education and research.
