Study of Assoc. Prof. Ulaş Yaman and Prof. Melik Dölen from METU Department of Mechanical Engineering entitled as “Generation of Patterned Indentations for Additive Manufacturing Technologies” has been selected as the Best Design and Manufacturing Application paper by the journal of IISE Transactions. This journal is one of the main publications of Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers and high-quality papers have been awarded since 1993.
In this study, Yaman and Dölen proposed an approach to generate patterned indentations for various additive manufacturing methodologies. In the proposed design and fabrication pipeline, they did employ morphological operations on a sequence of binary images representing the cross-sections of the artifacts to be fabricated. With such an approach, they eliminated the disadvantages of the conventional design and fabrication pipeline in additive manufacturing while 3D printing patterned artifacts.
