METU ranks first among both the foundation and state universities in our country and 627th among all universities worldwide in the 2023 World University Ranking of CWUR, an organization that ranks universities all around the world.
In the CWUR 2023 ranking, where a total of 20,531 universities were evaluated, METU has taken its place in the top 3.1% percentile in the world, while ranking 319th in terms of employability.
Preparing and publishing the largest academic ranking on a global scale, CWUR adopts objective indicators that are not dependent on surveys and data submissions of universities in its ranking methodology, which consists of education, employability, faculty members, and research as the main categories. In line with this, the distribution of the ratios on the indicators and the total score consists of the following areas:
1. Education: Weighing 25 percent, this area is measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have received major academic distinctions relative to the size of the university.
2. Employability: This area, which weighs 25 percent, is measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have held an executive position at one of the world’s largest companies relative to the size of the university.
3. Faculty: Weighing 10 percent, this area is measured by the number of faculty members who have received major academic distinctions.
4. Research: It consists of the following sub-categories, each weighing 10 percent:
i. Research Output: It is measured by the total number of research articles.
ii. High-Quality Publications: It is measured by the number of research articles published in top-tier journals.
iii. Influence: It is measured by the number of research articles published in highly influential journals.
iv) Citations: It is measured by the number of highly cited articles.
