METU Cooperates with Danish Partners on Offshore Wind Energy Project

An international project titled "Offshore Wind Farms Large-Scale Integration in Turkey (WindFlag)", which was launched on March 1, 2020 and is planned to continue for 36 months.

METU Center for Wind Energy Research (METUWIND) cooperates with Danish partners under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Ozan Keysan from Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, with the participation of researchers Assoc. Prof. Nejan Huvaj and Assoc. Prof. Elif Oğuz from the Department of Civil Engineering within the scope of an international project titled “Offshore Wind Farms Large-Scale Integration in Turkey (WindFlag)”, which was launched on March 1, 2020 and is planned to continue for 36 months.

WindFlag is funded by Danida Fellowship Centre, which was established by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, and implemented through partnership among four universities, two firms from Turkey and Denmark and TEİAŞ (Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation). The project aims to determine suitable sites for the potential large-scale offshore wind power plants in Turkey and assess their power production capabilities by considering grid connection possibilities, along with the objective of identifying the short-term and long-term effects of offshore wind power plants on Turkey’s electric power system. Within this context, the project also seeks to strengthen cooperation, knowledge sharing, and R&D activities between Turkish and Danish energy sectors.
