METU Chemical Engineering Department faculty member Prof. Deniz Üner has been accepted for funding within the scope of the TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2247-A National Fellowship for Outstanding Researchers Program with her project titled “Operando NMR Spectroscopy: A New Method for Monitoring Heterogeneous Catalytic Reactions”.
An NMR spectrometer suitable for desktop measurements will be adapted to the high temperature and pressure demanding conditions of catalytic reactions, in the engineering project to be carried out by Prof. Üner and her team at METU Chemical Engineering Department. One of the unique aspects of this adaptation is that it will be carried out without forcing the low temperature and pressure conditions required by the measuring device. At the application level, it is aimed to develop different impulse programs to monitor different catalytic behaviors. The methods to be developed in the project will enable the determination of the exchange mechanisms and speeds between the gas phase, the solid-gas interface of the molecules, the intermediate products on the surface and the gas phase products.
It is expected that the NMR spectroscopy methods to be developed in the project will find widespread use, as it is completely unique in dynamic studies and all information can be obtained with a single measurement in addition to being equivalent to XRD methods for accessing structural information, vibration spectroscopy methods for providing interface information, gravimetric and volumetric methods for providing quantitative data.
About TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2247-A National Fellowship for Outstanding Researchers Program
The projects that aim to provide groundbreaking developments in all fields of science and technology, that offer the opportunity to eliminate important gaps in their fields and give researchers a new perspective, that have the potential to make an invention and/or discovery, and scientists residing in Turkey who will carry out these projects are supported through the program.
