METU has been selected as a pilot university at the “Sustainable and Climate Friendly Campus Project Pilot Universities Meeting” chaired by Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
At the meeting, Özvar stated that they attach great importance to the steps to be taken against the negative consequences of climate change and that they are determined to carry out their duty of coordination in the development of adaptation processes. He also said that they successfully realized the project “Sustainable and Climate Friendly Campus” with 11 pilot universities, which is a reflection of their determination in this regard.
In addition to the Middle East Technical University, other universities chosen as pilot institutions are Bartın University, Ege University, Gazi University, Hacettepe University, İstanbul Technical University, Karabük University, Niğde Ömer Halis Demir University, Selçuk University, Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, and Yıldız Technical University. Moreover, at the meeting, the current status of universities and the contributions of the relevant ministries were discussed regarding the issues of zero waste, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, and the transformation of existing buildings on campuses into sustainable and climate friendly buildings.
