According to the World University Rankings 2024 released by the highly prestigious UK-based ranking institution Times Higher Education (THE), Middle East Technical University has succeeded to rank first among Turkish state universities and shared the first place among all Turkish universities with two foundation universities, while ranking in the 351-400 band in the world.
After ranking in the 601-800 band in the 2022 ranking and in the 501-600 band in the 2023 ranking, METU has achieved great success in THE’s World University Rankings 2024 by taking its place in the 351-400 band and thus making a huge leap. In addition to significantly improving its performance in many indicators taken into account in the ranking compared to the previous year, METU also increased 76 places in the area of Teaching compared to last year and ranked 213rd in the world. Thus, Middle East Technical University has managed to obtain the highest score among universities in Turkey in Teaching and Research areas.
To rank the leading higher education institutions around the world, THE evaluated the universities according to a total of 18 indicators in five areas, which are Teaching, Research, Citations, International Outlook, and Industry Income. Within the evaluation process for the World University Rankings 2024, THE reviewed 2,600 higher education institutions, and 1,904 of them were included in the ranking. This also means that the number of evaluated universities have reached an all-time high. By being in the top 19.7% percentile worldwide in THE World University Rankings 2024, METU has achieved its greatest success in the last 11 years.
