METU has been awarded at the event hosted by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) which officialized Turkey’s participation in the Horizon Europe Program.
The opening speeches of the event were delivered by Mustafa Varank, the Minister of Industry and Technology; Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs; Prof. Hasan Mandal, the President of TÜBİTAK; and Mariya Gabriel, the Commissioner of Innovation, Research, Culture and Youth of the EU Commission. Then, the coordinating institutions within components 2 and 3 in Horizon 2020 program were awarded for their achievements. With four successful projects from Turkey in the Horizon 2020 program, METU became the university that received the most awards.
The President of our University, Prof. Mustafa Verşan Kök, received the award that METU was deemed worthy of as a result of its achievements in the Black Sea CONNECT, BRIDGE-BS, NEOMATRIX, and SolarTwins projects conducted under the coordination of METU.
Moreover, Prof. Barış Salihoğlu, the Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences at METU, and Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Yücel, the Deputy Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences, gave presentations at the event. While Dr. Salihoğlu’s presentation was on success stories from Turkey, Dr. Yücel delivered a presentation about the contributions of Turkish stakeholders.
