Middle East Technical University has ranked in the 501-600 band in the World University Rankings 2023, prepared by Times Higher Education (THE), a prestigious UK-based ranking institution. According to THE’s ranking, METU has had the first place among the state universities in Turkey.
After ranking in the 801-1000 band in 2021 and the 601-800 band in 2022, the fact that our university ranked in the 501-600 band in the 2023 World University Rankings of THE indicates that METU has succeeded in maintaining its rise without getting into an advertisement or payment related relationship with any ranking institution. Moreover, the ranking of METU has increased by 95 places in the Teaching area and 128 places in the Research area compared to the previous year. Therefore, by ranking 289th in Teaching and 206th in Research worldwide, METU has had the first place among all the universities in Turkey in these two ranking areas.
Ranking the prominent institutions of higher education all around the world, THE evaluates universities according to 13 indicators in five main areas, which are Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income, and International Outlook. Within the 2023 World University Rankings, THE evaluated more than 2,500 institutions, and 1,799 were included in the ranking. Thus, the number of universities included in the 2023 ranking reached an all-time high. METU, on the other hand, reached its own highest level of success in the last eight years by making it to the top 30% of the list overall.
A total of 79 universities from Turkey were evaluated by THE, and 61 of them took place in the World University Rankings 2023. Among the 20 state universities with the title of Research University in Turkey, METU is the only one to increase its place in the rankings.
When the last three years are taken into consideration, the scores of METU in the areas of evaluation have also increased significantly.
